GJDRebuild, Performance & Search Foundations
GJD is a Queen’s Award-winning manufacturer whose detection and illumination products protect some of the most demanding sites in the world. This proposal sets out how we would bring gjd.co.uk up to the same standard: a faster, sharper website with search foundations that let installers, specifiers and consultants find and trust GJD first.
“Saigon Digital transformed how Ski.com shows up online. Beyond rebuilding our platform, they helped us rethink our entire search and AI visibility strategy. We saw a significant uplift in organic traffic, our content started appearing in AI-generated recommendations, and the quality of inbound leads improved dramatically. They understand where digital is heading and how to turn it into real commercial results.”

A world-class manufacturer whose website has fallen behind the business
Your website is the spec sheet for the whole company.
GJD has spent 40 years becoming a world leader in external perimeter protection and intruder detection: designed and manufactured in Heywood, a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, BSIA membership, integrations across the major VMS and automation ecosystems, and a customer base that spans commercial, industrial, government and critical infrastructure worldwide. Part of the Ava Group, GJD is exactly the kind of British manufacturer the industry trusts.
But the buyers who matter, security installers, integrators, consultants and specifiers, increasingly meet GJD through the website first. They arrive from a distributor's line card, a trade-show conversation or a search for a detection spec, and they judge what they find the way they judge a product: does it respond fast, is it precise, does it work first time. Today gjd.co.uk is a 2021-era build that loads slowly, buries excellent resources, and presents world-class products with less polish than the products themselves.
Where this fits with your in-house plans
We understand your team is taking AI search in-house. This project deliberately does not duplicate that work. What it does is hand your team the technical foundations that any search programme, human or AI, is built on: a fast site, clean structured markup, proper product schema and a content architecture organised around what specifiers actually ask. Your in-house efforts get a platform worth optimising.
What We Found
Five findings from our technical review of gjd.co.uk, each one measurable
The gaps are specific, and all of them are fixable
We ran gjd.co.uk through the same technical review we use for every client site. These are not opinions about taste; they are measurements.
1. The homepage takes too long to answer
Server response (time to first byte) measured at roughly 1.5 seconds before a single pixel renders, with 44 separate scripts loading on the homepage. Specifiers checking a datasheet from a site visit on 4G feel every one of those seconds, and Google scores the site down for them too.
Measured: ~1.5s TTFB · 44 scripts2. Search engines are told almost nothing
The homepage title tag is literally “Home - GJD” and there is no meta description at all. Yoast is installed but outputs only a default WebPage block: no Organization schema establishing who GJD is, and no Product schema on a catalogue whose entire purpose is product specifications. Competitors like Raytec win spec-driven searches that GJD's products deserve to contest.
Found: "Home - GJD" title · no meta description · no Product schema3. The design undersells the products
The site dates from 2021 and shows it: dated layouts, inconsistent product imagery, and event listings still promoting shows from 2022. For a company whose brand promise is precision engineering, a stale website quietly argues against the brand every day.
Found: 2021-era build · 2022 events still live4. Excellent resources, organised as a pile
Case studies, whitepapers, CPD training, manuals and videos all exist, and they are genuinely good. But they are organised by format rather than by the questions specifiers ask: perimeter protection for solar farms, detection for heritage sites, ANPR for logistics yards. The raw material for category-leading content is already written; it just cannot be found.
Found: resource hub organised by file type, not buyer intent5. Demand arrives, then falls into a generic inbox
The site's calls to action are an email address and a phone number. There is no structured enquiry capture, no installer-locator, no way to qualify or route the demand the site generates. Every improvement in findability multiplies through this gap.
Found: no structured lead capture on any product pageThe Foundations Project
Three workstreams, one integrated build, eight to ten weeks
Fix the platform once, properly.
One project that rebuilds the site's speed and presentation, installs the search foundations, and restructures the resource hub around buyer intent. WordPress stays, so your team keeps the CMS they know.
Rebuild & Performance
- Front-end rebuild on the existing WordPress CMS: modern design, consistent product presentation
- Performance engineering: target sub-500ms server response and green Core Web Vitals
- Script diet: consolidate the 44-script payload to the handful that earn their place
- Mobile-first templates for the pages specifiers actually use on site visits
- Content hygiene: retire stale events, refresh imagery, tighten navigation
Search Foundations
- Proper metadata across the site: titles and descriptions written for spec-driven searches
- Organization, Product and FAQ schema across the full catalogue
- Clean heading structure and crawlable markup on every template
- Internal linking architecture connecting products, sectors and resources
- Analytics and Search Console configured so your team can measure everything that follows
Resource Hub Restructure
- Reorganise case studies, whitepapers and CPD content by sector and application
- Intent-led hub pages: perimeter protection, critical infrastructure, heritage, transport
- Every datasheet and manual becomes a findable, indexable entry point
- Editorial guidelines so your team keeps the structure as content grows
Phase two, when the foundations are live
The natural next step after this project is the specifier funnel: an interactive product selector (detection range, environment, integration), a where-to-buy installer locator, and gated CPD registration that feeds your sales team qualified contacts. We scope that separately once the foundations are in place, and only if the results earn it.
You approve every stage. No surprises.
Direction before detail
We agree the design direction on the homepage and one product template before designing everything. The big decisions happen early, when they are cheap to change.
Feedback on your schedule
Design lives in a shared Figma workspace your team can open anytime. Comments land directly on the work; no waiting for scheduled review meetings.
No fixed revision rounds
We iterate on each milestone until your team is genuinely happy, within the agreed timeline. You are never forced to sign off on something that is not right.
Zero downtime, zero SEO loss
The rebuild happens on a staging environment with a full redirect map, so existing rankings carry over and the live site never goes dark.
Timeline
Eight to ten weeks from kick-off to launch
Three stages, visible progress every week
Technical audit deep-dive, analytics baseline, information architecture, product taxonomy, design direction agreed on homepage and product template.
Full template design in the open Figma workspace, front-end rebuild, performance engineering, schema implementation across the catalogue.
Resource hub restructure, metadata across all pages, redirect map, device and browser QA, staged launch, CMS training and handover.
Investment
One fixed price, defined deliverables, no hourly meters
Eight to ten weeks · all three workstreams · staged payments tied to milestones
- Complete front-end rebuild on WordPress, mobile-first
- Performance engineering to green Core Web Vitals
- Organization, Product and FAQ schema across the catalogue
- Metadata rewritten for every indexable page
- Resource hub restructured around buyer intent
- Redirect map, QA, CMS training and 30-day post-launch support
Once foundations are live and earning
- Interactive product selector tool
- Where-to-buy installer locator
- Gated CPD registration and lead routing
- Only proposed if phase-one results justify it
The Foundations price is a single integrated engagement rather than a menu of parts; the workstreams share discovery, design and QA, which is what makes the price possible. Staged payments across the project, standard Saigon Digital terms.
